Bangladesh: METABUILD Project Closing Event with Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufacturers Association (BEMMA)


A series of four project closing events were held in February, 2020 in Bangladesh in cooperation with four different industry associations. Three events took place in Dhaka and one event in Chittagong. The objectives of these dissemination events were:

  • To share the project achievements - overall and in Bangladesh.
  • To explain and hand-over the “Resource Controlling Tool” to the METABUILD companies and to the senior management of the industry associations for post-project use.
  • To distribute participation certificates to the METABUILD companies and to recognize selected SMEs that achieved significant savings and have shown high commitment to implementing RECP measures.

This event took place on 8th February, 2020 at Ramna Restaurant, Wari, Dhaka. From the beginning of the project, METABUILD team has been working closely with BEMMA. 124 SMEs from BEMMA received direct support from METABUILD which has a significant impact among all other members of the association. The event was presided over by Mr. Khandoker Anwar Kamal, Project Manager, METABUILD. Mr. Vikas Singh, Technical Expert from STENUM Asia (India) presented the overall project  achievements and the Bangladesh achievements were presented by Ms. Nizhum Islam Nishi, Coordinator, METABUILD. Mr. Sajib Saha and Mr. Kazi Mahidul Islam, Technical Consultants from DCCI introduced the Resource Controlling Tool and its use

Mr. Md. Nasim Ullah Hemayet, Former President of BEMMA attended the event as the Chief Guest. He requested the company owners to be careful and to measure their spending on any type of energy and other resources. He urged all factory owners to come forward and join projects or campaigns that lead to energy and resource savings. Mr. Mosharrof Hossain Bhuiyan (President, BEMMA) and other senior members of the association were also present during the event. Mr. Mosharrof expressed his gratitude for the support provided by METABUILD project. He mentioned that these were new experiences for them and they will continue implementing these learnings.

67 member companies of BEMMA received certificates for the implementation of RECP measures in their factories and 6 companies received METABUILD award for their outstanding performance in resource saving.
