Business Forum Held at Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bangladesh

In order to establish contact and motivate new companies to join the METABUILD project, a business forum was held on “Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) & its benefits for metal industries” at the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bangladesh. Three associations participated in the forum: Bangladesh Electrical Cables Manufacturers Association (BECMA), Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufacturers Association (BEMMA) and Bangladesh Auto Re-rolling Steel Mills Owners Association (BARSMA).

The objective of the forum was to present an overview of the METABUILD project and opportunities for metal industries. Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) & its benefits for metal industries were also explained.

Various company owners/Managing Directors/CEOs from the steel, cable and electrical products sectors were present during the event. The forum was presided by Mr. A.H.M. Rezaul Kabir, Secretary General of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry. A presentation was given by Dr. Uwe Weber, Team Leader and Ms. Silvia Sartori, Communications and Networking Expert of the SWITCH-Asia Network Facility. Engr. Akber (Al) Hakim, Director of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry briefed the company owners/representatives about how the project is going to support them in the technical field. Moreover the companies which are already engaged with the project shared their experience.

As an outcome of the forum, eight companies have signed MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) & application forms to join the METABUILD project. Two companies have signed the application forms and mentioned that they will sign the MoU after a discussion among their officials. Other companies also expressed their interest to join the project and will communicate with the project team accordingly.
