The objectives of the fifth project meeting were to review the results/achievements of year 2, prepare the second year report and work out the detailed action plan for year 3 (Mar-18 to Feb-19). Based on the showcases prepared in year 1 from the pioneer companies, several companies were mobilized to join the project.
In order to establish contact and motivate new companies to join METABUILD project, a small business forum held on “Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) & its benefits for metal industries” at Bangabandhu Conference Hall, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) , WTC Building, 102-103, Agrabad C/A, Chittagong, Bangladesh. The objective of the forum was to explore the overview of METABUILD project and opportunities for metal industries. Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) & its benefits for metal industries were also explained.

The METABUILD team has recently published the policy brief "Promoting resource efficient cleaner production (RECP) in metal SMEs in the building and construction sector in Sri Lanka". The brief explores the current status of RECP policy and regulation in Sri Lanka and provides recommendations for strengthening RECP among metal SMEs in Sri Lanka's building and construction sector.
From showcase creation to full rollout of SME support programme
On 17 - 19 February 2017, the 3rd METABUILD project meeting took place at DCCI office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The objectives of our third project meeting were to review the results/achievements of the first year and to prepare the first year reports (narrative and financial), to switch the mindset from ‘showcase creation’ to standard support of SMEs and last but not least to discuss the upcoming activities and to jointly prepare a detailed plan for years 2 and 3.
Sensitising the top management through CEO forums is a key strategy to mobilise companies for the METABUILD project. Accordingly, the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) Sri Lanka held its 3rd CEO forum at Salon Orchid - Galadari Hotel Colombo on 5 January 2017, from 5.30 to 8.30 pm.
This forum raised awareness for the METABUILD project and the benefits of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) among government officials, representatives from industry associations and companies. In total, 29 industry representatives participated in the forum.
One of the leading newpaper & magazine in Sri Lanka, 'The Island' has published an article on METABUILD project under the title 'METABUILD project aspires to increase efficiency among metal sector SMEs'.
