Stakeholder Meeting – Sri Lanka; Moving forward in company mobilisation

Project METABUILD’s goal is to increase resource efficiency while decreasing environmental impacts and the costs for 400 SMEs in the metal sector from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. It will be achieved through providing technical support from international as well as local experts. 80 metal SMEs, who are in the supply chain of the construction sector, is the target of Sri Lanka.

As a company mobilisation strategy, the National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka (NCPCSL) works closely with different stakeholders especially with industry associations and chambers. Accordingly, together with the Wayamba Chamber of Commerce (WCCI), NCPCSL organised a stakeholder meeting where the project was introduced to the metal sector supply companies.

Mr. Stefan Melnitzky from AREC Austria, Mr, Rajat Batra & Mr. Sohail Pathan from STENUM Asia India and Mr. Ganesh Chandramouli from TERI India participated in the meeting as international experts. Mr. Samantha Kumarasena, Mrs.Iresha Gurusinghe, Mr. Ruwan Wijemanne, Ms. Sachira Vilochani and Mr. Tharindu Maddumage took part in the meeting on behalf of NCPCSL.

Mr.T.G.U.B Thambugala, Director General WCCI welcomed the audience. Mr. Wijemanna presented on Resource Efficiency and Environmental Performance of Metal Industry, while Mr. Melnitzky and Mr. Batra briefed the participants on the Background of the METABUILD project; How to join and what to expect from the project. The meeting had a panel discussion which was moderated by Engineer Kumarasena, CEO of NCPCSL and where the panelists were Mr. Melnitzky, Mr. Batra and Mr. Wijemanna.
